Christmas time is easily one of my favourite times of the year, and especially so when there are fun activities like ice skating at Dundrum On Ice! The perfect way to spend time with your friends for a catch up, take your siblings for a fun day out, or an ideal date night with your other half. Dundrum On Ice is truly a perfect spot for any wintry occasion.

Having worked with Dundrum On Ice for the past few years, I was more than delighted to return for this year’s season of skating. This year, Dundrum On Ice has also teamed with up Cookes Restaurant, for Skate & Date! I brought the girls for a lovely catch up and ‘girls date’, skating on the ice and then enjoying an extremely delicious 2 course lunch at Cookes Restaurant.

Skate & Date at Dundrum On Ice and Cookes Restaurant Dundrum Town Centre: 2 course lunch €15, or 2 course dinner €18 when you show your skating ticket

To start, I ordered the Irish Hereford Carpaccio of Beef (€11) from the ‘Light & Bright’ section. This was a delicate first course, with pink-hued slices of cured beef topped with a dressed rocket salad and a generous amount of Parmesan shavings. To add contrast to the dish, this was also served with two slices of grilled ciabatta and a tasty, refreshing truffle mayonnaise sauce on the side. Altogether, this was a lovely start to my meal here at Cookes Restaurant.

Then to follow, I opted for the Pancake with Caramel Pecans & Butterscotch (€12.50). Now, you’re not mistaken when you see the singular printed, because what I received was one giant pancake! Easily the biggest pancake I’ve ever ordered, it was a traditional dropscone, with a fluffy consistency, subtle vanilla flavour and drenched in a delicious butterscotch sauce. Atop, the caramelised pecans complimented all the flavours very well. Truly magnificent!

During my meal I also enjoyed the Sour Elderflower cocktail (€11.50), made from Zacapa 3 Rum and Red Port, mixed with a sweet & sour combination of Elderflower Syrup, Gooseberry Jam and Citrus, finishes with egg white foam. It had the perfect notes of rum and port, and well complimented by the elderflower, gooseberry and citrus.

The interior of Cooke’s Restaurant is beautiful. It’s very classy with a lot of suede and marble furnishings, and is very bright due to its floor-to-ceiling glass dining room. It really makes for the perfect place for any date, be it with your other half, the girls or your family. The service was excellent too, and very attentive. Manager Paul Malone was as friendly as should be from beginning to end, explaining the menu well, introducing the cocktail menu and keeping us well hydrated! Cookie FM truly does recommend Cookes Restaurant, and I do encourage you experience and avail Skate & Date with Dundrum On Ice and Cookes Restaurant.
