EVENT – Super Miss Sue with Zomato*

Cookie FM Rating – 3.5/5

Last week I headed into town for my second #ZomatoMeetup, held in the heart of Dublin City at Super Miss Sue, a seafood café-style restaurant with clean interior and delicious food. Funnily enough, I’d actually been here before for a spontaneous fish & chips dinner with my uncle, but had not realized it was the same place. Nevertheless I was still really looking forward to this brunch with fellow food bloggers. The meetup event was organised by Aisling Byrne of Zomato, though Karen Aherne filled in as Aisling was unable to attend, and she’s just as lovely & jolly as her colleague! Eight of us lovely ladies met up for the event at which we were welcomed with champagne and given a tour of the Super Miss Sue premises. Leo Molloy, the SMS Community Manager, and the restaurant’s head chef, Karl Whelan, showed our group around including their kitchens and the downstairs & über cool New York-style sister restaurant Luna, before seating us at our window-side table for brunch.

For the event, we were treated to the brand new brunch menu so to start us off we each received the Bloody Mary cocktail, which comes with a skewer of a king prawn, pickles, quail’s egg & olive. The idea behind the SMS brunch menu is that it’s “the lady to mind you at the weekends.” And as we know, a Bloody Mary is very much known as a hangover cure type of drink. Funnily this was my first time drinking one, and gosh I quite liked it! The tomato juice and spicy flavours pack quite the punch – I’m guessing this is the combination cure for aching heads the morning after a good night out. For my main I ordered the crab salad, because I saw four of my favourite foodie words: “crab, hash browns, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce”. So, really I just had to have that! When our brunch was served, gosh I fell in love. The presentation of my crab salad was truly magnificent; creamy pale yellow hollandaise sauce atop poached eggs sprinkled with chili flakes & chopped chives, sitting atop fresh crab salad on crunchy hash browns with watercress garnish. And everything was cooked to perfection, and tasted just as delicious as described. The eggs were runny, the sauce was as smooth as can be, the crab salad was strong enough in flavour & not overpowered by other existing flavours in the dish, and the hash browns were both crispy and soft – everything was it should be. I truly enjoyed every bite of my dish, and it seemed a mutual feeling within the group. Safe to say I polished off my plate. And then there were the desserts. We ordered two of each dessert to share, which was definitely a good choice after the Blood Mary and our mains. I had my eye on the Tiramisu Panna cotta dessert, as the combination really intrigued me – and my gosh is the result a delicious one! Creamy Panna cotta atop strong-flavoured Tiramisu base, plenty of Amaretto and coffee flavours throughout. The cheesecake was nice, light and perfectly sweetened; and the chocolate tart was as delicious, packing a lot of chocolatey, peanut buttery and Oreo cookie goodness.

All in all this was a truly enjoyable meal, experience and a successful event. The food is sublime. Everything was seasoned perfectly, sweetened to perfection and all corresponds well with the menu. The staff was extremely helpful, friendly and the chefs definitely know what they’re doing. The atmosphere at Super Miss Sue, and at this meetup, was an enjoyable & joyous one and I look forward to my next visit & next meetup!
