Song of the Week: John Newman – Come and Get It (2015)

John Newman is one of those artists that is just fantastic. I love his vocal tone and abilities, and his songs have such funk and feeling to them. When Newman released this Come and Get It in July of this year, (a few days after my 25th birthday), it was the hight of summer and everything about this song was perfect. The whistles in both the intro & outro, the big band style during the chorus, and of course the vocals. Inspired by wanting to create a record to enjoy in the sun, in the car driving, Newman penned this track with Los Angeles in mind. And my what a fine end result it has. And then there’s the music video, that transcends from black & white to full colour. It’s moving, it’s beautiful and somehow it’s still fun. What’s more, Newman revealed that the video concept was based on a real, personal situation that he had experienced. Kudos John Newman, kudos.
