Last night (August 5) I attended my first #ZomatoMeetup for food bloggers. It was held in San Lorenzo’s on George’s Street, an Italian restaurant with a cool NYC urban vibe to it. Newly refurbished, this restaurant boasts true Italian cuisine with a vast offer of dishes from classic salsiccia ragu and meatballs to my favourite gnocchi (a rarity in our Dublin City!). The meetup was organised by Aisling Byrne of Zomato. A dozen bloggers came together for the foodie event, which introduced me to yet another new group of lovely people, and some that I’ve known from fashion & beauty blogger events. The lovely ladies at my table mingled over wine, cats and hair (could we be any more girly?!) before drooling over the delicious food the chefs served up.

For the event, we chose from the Early Bird menu, and I opted for the prawn starters and chicken main. When the former arrived, I had the task of be-heading and de-tailing the gambas, a first for me, though Emma was kind enough to show me the ropes. Delicious in flavour, and the accompanying toasted bread was perfect – soaking in the juices and flavours very well. My main course was quite a delight, and features many of my favourite food aspects: chicken on the bone, crispy Italian ham, sweetcorn and jus. The meats were cooked beautifully and worked well together, and all of the accompanying vegetables were oh so delicious! I adored the creamed sweetcorn and red onion, and the jus really helped tie the dish together. Thankfully I wasn’t overly full after my two dishes so I too opted for dessert, along with a complimentary cocktail, many thanks to owner Anthony. I’ve heard a lot about San Lorenzo’s famous Nutella cheesecake but I saw the words “dark chocolate”, “mascarpone” and “amaretti biscuits” with the pavlova – and so I ordered that instead! It was beyond delicious, though extremely large. One could easily share a dessert to avoid the guilt of not being able to finish! I did however sample Emma’s cheesecake, and it sure is divine. I also ordered the Nutella cheesecake cocktail, so in a way I still got my cheesecake fix.
As a whole, I was thoroughly impressed with San Lorenzo’s. The food was delicious. The staff was very polite, helpful and also banterful, which is a truly memorable quality. Sous Chef Nick also came out to chat with our group, where we thanked him and the team for their brilliant food. The atmosphere in this restaurant, and at this meetup, was an enjoyable & joyous one and I look forward to my next visit & next meetup!
